The
philosophy behind my wedding photography workshops...
Being
a successful wedding photographer is not just about photographic technique.
In fact, I believe it only accounts for a relatively small percentage.
The vast majority is about who you are on the day, the relationship
you build with the couple, their family and their friends, understanding
what a wedding is, how it works and what your role is within the wedding.
Get this right and the rest will follow.
Yes,
a certain level of photographic knowledge and technique is important
but it is not the most important factor in being a successful wedding
photographer.
Everyone
knows the stereotypical wedding photographer - bossy, annoying and thinking
that the photos are the most important thing. Not conforming to this
stereotype whilst still producing high-quality wedding photographs is
the tricky bit.
Getting
it right is a balancing act and the workshops I have developed aim to
enable you to create this balance within your business. They are also
designed to help you achieve a balance between your business and everything
else in your life.
Too
many photography workshops are run by photographers who no longer take
photographs at weddings. The workshops I offer are continuously changing
as i experience new things at the weddings I photograph. You will benefit
from this.
Who
am I?
I
am a Surrey-based wedding and family photographer. I photograph about
70 weddings a year and about 120 families. In 2007 I was voted Photographer
of the Year at the Wrapit Wedding Industry Awards having been in business
for 3 years.
I got my first SLR camera in 2001. It was a gift from my parents and
was totally out of the blue. I had never had an interest in photography.
I
started messing around with the camera, walking the streets of London
with it and taking it to friends’ weddings. I liked the way it heightened
my awareness of my surroundings. I got real pleasure from making a photograph
I liked. I got even more pleasure when other people liked my photos.
I
took a beginners evening course.
The
job I was in at the time was going nowhere and I was ready for a change.
Several factors convinced me to make this change. I didn’t want to look
back and wonder "what if...".
I
decided to become a wedding photographer - just like that! My wife was
six months pregnant.
From
the very start I was determined not to be just another wedding photographer.
I
wanted to beat the stereotype.
For
18 months I developed my photography business whilst doing a full-time
job. I worked every evening after work and every weekend.
In
April 2004 I quit my job and became a full-time photographer. 3
years later I was voted Wedding photographer of the Year at the Wrapit
Wedding Industry Awards.
My
workshops are designed to help you develop your own successful photography
business, to give you the confidence to go for it and make it work and
to make a living doing something you love and enjoy.
If
you own a digital SLR and want to photograph weddings and/or children
& families professionally my workshops will help you achieve this.
Remember,
just 4 years ago I was starting out so I know where you're coming from.
